About the MMAFA

Thank you for visiting our website. The Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Association (MMAFA) aims to establish an association comprised entirely of mixed martial artists and their trainers for the purpose of creating a truly professional structure for the mixed martial arts industry. We start from the core principle that MMA is a competitive sport which will thrive based upon the talent of its athletes. The MMAFA will be led and directed by its members and their elected member representatives.

Why Join?

MMAFA has been established to provide its members with an influential and central voice in matters affecting the world of mixed martial arts. It is time that the athletes come together to make their views heard on issues that are important to mixed martial artists. Such issues may include:

* Standardized rules;

* State athletic commission policies and regulations;

* Safety and health regulations; and

* MMA Rankings.

The MMAFA also has the potential to provide the members athletes of the MMAFA with an organization to accomplish the following:

* Licensing opportunities: MMAFA would provide the ATHLETES, regardless of their promotional organization, a central brand name to create licensing (and revenue) opportunities.
* Centralized vehicle for marketing the athletes and mixed martial arts as a professional sport.
* Industry-wide promotions: An MMAFA has the potential to hold industry-wide conventions, award shows, and other media events.
* A centralized voice for advocacy on business issues (e.g., personality rights, minimum contract provisions).
* Potentially even the ability to stage its own events, with the MMAFA/athletes actually receiving a revenue share.

Organization

We have drafted a set of initial bylaws that follow closely the model used by Major League Baseball Players Association. They are stripped down intentionally to the basics, and can be revised, adopted, or amended as the athlete members see fit.
